SIM Card FAQs: Non-Koodo PhonesPrintNon-Koodo Phones If you purchased your SIM-based phone from our Web store, a Koodo Shop or Retail partner, then it's a Koodo phone with a SIM card. You can also call 1-866-99-KOODO to check. You must first check to see if your phone is compatible to our network. Go to koodomobile.com/phonecompatibility to check if your phone is eligible. Just a head’s up that your current phone must be unlocked in order for it to work on our network. If your phone is not compatible, you must purchase a Koodo phone to get access to our services. It depends on the technical specifications of your phone. Click here to see if it’ll work on our network. To use another carrier’s SIM-based phone with Koodo, you should check to see if the phone is compatible with our network. If it is and the phone has been 'unlocked', then it should work once an activated Koodo SIM card is inserted. If you are planning on using data features, you may need to configure your phone's data connection. Click here for instructions. Koodo will only be able to provide support to enable voice and SMS during SIM set up, but cannot guarantee assistance with any other services that currently are available with your non-Koodo phone. Some services may be different or unavailable on your non-Koodo phone. Koodo cannot provide support for phone or data support for non-Koodo phones since we don’t have the appropriate support tools. Koodo doesn’t guarantee service on other carrier’s SIM-based phones. If it’s compatible and 'unlocked', voice and text messaging services should work in the same way. Koodo Reps don’t have the ability to configure, support, or troubleshoot data services on other carrier’s SIM-based phones. Wireless carriers 'lock' their phones to only work with SIM cards registered to their network. Reversing this programming is considered 'unlocking' and will ensure that the phone works with any SIM card. Your phone must be unlocked to work on our network. If your phone is currently with another wireless carrier, you may assume that it’s locked. If you’re not sure of your phone’s history, you can check if your phone is locked by inserting a Koodo SIM card into your phone. If it’s locked, your phone will display a generic SIM unlock error screen, such as:
Screens vary by phone. Yes. Other carrier’s SIM-based phones need to be ‘unlocked’ and compatible in order to be activated with Koodo. Many websites on the Internet offer unlocking services for a small fee. We suggest that you use Google and search your phone name and key word “unlock code”. Some local wireless retailers provide unlocking services. Once you obtain your wireless carrier unlock code, insert a Koodo SIM into your phone. A generic SIM unlock error screen will appear. Your unlock code can be entered here. An unlocking service will ask you for your phone’s IMEI and the name of the phone’s original wireless carrier. Your phone's IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is an international "Serial number" 15 digits in length. Your IMEI can be found using one of the following methods:
Please only use one of the above methods to find your IMEI. The IMEI listed on the outside of your phone box can be different from the above. You must first activate a Koodo SIM card on a Koodo monthly plan. This can be done through a Koodo Shop, or online by visiting koodomobile.com. Insert your activated Koodo SIM card into your unlocked phone. At this point, you should be able to make voice calls and send/receive text messages on our network. Data configuration must still be done. Compatible non Koodo phones should be able to make voice calls and send/receive text messages on our network. Due to the vast number of non Koodo phones available, data configuration varies by phone. You can use the general guidelines and settings to configure your phone’s data connection. With an HSPA BlackBerry, data services will automatically be configured when you insert your Koodo SIM card and choose a BlackBerry rate plan or add-on.
