SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) is a smart card that has a customer’s phone number, contacts and other customer info, such as plan details. SIM-based phones require this card in order to work and access the network.

A SIM serial number is a unique identification number assigned to each SIM card. It is a 19-digit number found on the back of the card. You’ll need this for the activation process.

A Koodo SIM card allows our customers to use the next generation HSPA network. They also allow customers to take their account info and service from one phone to another for immediate use.

Open the back of the phone and remove the battery. Push the card into the ‘SIM slot’, which is often indicated by an image of the SIM card. Ensure that the slanted corner is facing the right way and that the SIM card is pushed all the way in. See your phone's user guide for more information.

Yes, a Koodo SIM card can be used with any SIM-based phone. Koodo phones with a SIM card are available online or at any Koodo Shop or Retail partner. You can also use 'unlocked' SIM-based phones from other wireless carriers. To see if your SIM-based phone is compatible with our network, click here.

Yes, your SIM card can be removed from one SIM-based phone to another without any need for activating the new phone. Just make sure that your existing monthly plan covers all your needs to avoid any extra costs.

The Koodo SIM card can roam on other HSPA networks worldwide. Check out our list of roaming partners.

The Koodo SIM card my be purchased online or at any Koodo Shop.

You can save up to 40 text messages and up to 250 phonebook contacts on your Koodo SIM card.

This message means that you have reached memory capacity of the SIM card. To store more info, you’ll have to delete other items.

Simply select the text messages and/or phonebook contacts and choose the option ’delete’.

You can protect the info stored on your SIM card by setting up a password that must be entered once you turn on your phone. This password is referred to as a PIN, and by default it is turned off and set to 1234. PIN options can usually be found in the phone menu under Settings > Security. Check your user guide for setup instructions.

If you’ve lost your phone, login to Self Serve or call us at 1-866-99-KOODO to suspend your service. Please note there may be a charge for the call.

The first step is to check that your SIM card is inserted properly. If you still get the error message, go to a Koodo Shop or call 1-866-99-KOODO for help.

Yes, you can give your SIM card to a friend but the account will still be in your name and you will still be responsible to make the monthly payments. You can transfer complete ownership of the account by calling 1-866-99-KOODO. Please note there may be a charge for this service.

Yes, you can use your SIM card in a data phone. However, not all data services are available with Koodo Mobile.

To de-activate your SIM card, please call 1-866-99-KOODO.

Your SIM card may be placed in a recycling bin. You should delete all personal information, like text messages and phonebook contacts.

An ICCID is a unique 19-digit number printed on the SIM card.

Wireless carriers 'lock' their phones to only work with SIM cards registered to their network. Reversing this programming is considered 'unlocking' and will ensure that the phone works with any SIM card.

Yes. To be eligible, your Koodo phone with SIM card account must be in good standing.  This means that you’ve paid your monthly bill in full for 3 consecutive months.  Please call 1-866-99-KOODO if you would like to unlock your phone. A $50 charge will apply..

Just a heads up that if your phone is unlocked by a third party, your phone warranty will no longer be valid.

If you’re using another carrier’s SIM card with your Koodo phone, the phone’s data services such as SMS and Multimedia Messaging Services may not function properly as they are configured to the Koodo network.  To function properly on another carrier’s network, please follow the instructions provided to you by the SIM card carrier.  If you’re having problems, please contact the SIM card carrier directly.

Just a heads up that when you return to the Koodo network it will work as normal when you re-insert the Koodo SIM back into your Koodo phone with SIM card.

If you travel overseas, you may want to unlock your Koodo phone with SIM card to avoid big bills. While overseas, you can purchase a prepaid SIM card in the country you’re visiting to give you lower rates.
